WEEK IN REVIEW 12/9/13 – 12/13/13:

Dear Parents,
This week our students really worked hard in Science and performed multiple experiments with rocks and soil.
They created beautiful Christmas works of art as well! Our new novel has been interesting to say the least. Our class has enjoyed reading about the Herdman children! Speaking of novels, I was really please with most of the children’s reading projects  they completed after they read their non-fiction novel.
We will begin our new genre of novel study after the holidays. It will be either biography, fiction, or historical mystery.

I decided to give this test tomorrow since I had internet trouble with our review. I will review more today and Wednesday. I will also let this be an open book test. No worries. The students really enjoyed the soil and rock experiment. They really know this material!

WEEK IN REVIEW 12/2/13 – 12/6/13:

 

Dear Parents,

Christmas is upon us!! The students are working so hard creating Christmas writings, poetry, ornaments, and art!

Feel free to come in the day of the Christmas Party on the 20th! We will have a short fun snack, bible story, and share time from 10:20-11:15 a.m. This day is an early dismissal day.

The end of the nine weeks is approaching as well.  These next two weeks are crucial and homework, quizzes, and tests will still be in the mix of this Christmas season so keep studying and reading each night. Remember, daily math drill practice with multiplication and division  helps your student succeed each day during math drills.

WEEK IN REVIEW FOR 11/11/13 – 11/15/13:

 

Parents,

What a wonderful week we had last week! They created expository paragraphs using graphs and organizers, they researched famous Native Americans like Sequoyah, and learned about several different Native Americans in the United States!

Thank you so much for helping your student decorate their turkey I sent home Friday. They are due by Tuesday. We will be writing about them and sharing them in the hallway during the “turkey” season.

Parents,

This month has been a wonderful month in our classroom.  I enjoyed meeting each of you on conference week!  Please remember to practice your math facts with multiplication from 6-9 each night.  Reading each night for at least  15 minutes is also extremely important for your third grader.

Many students are cross multiplying with facts to 5.  IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT STUDENTS DO HOMEWORK AND PRACTICE MATH MULTIPLICATION FACTS EACH NIGHT FOR AT LEAST 30 MINUTES.

WEEK IN REVIEW FOR 9/9/13-9/13/13:

Dear Parents,

What a wonderful two weeks it has been in my classroom! 

We have grown plants from seeds in our windows as we’ve explored the parts of a seed and parts of a plant.

The students have conducted science experiments using the scientific method!

We have had our first Science and Social Studies chapter tests!  They have learned how to take a 3rd grade multiple choice test! The students have also completed numerous Social Studies projects and role play activities as they have completed the Democracy/Communities Unit.

We are SUPER excited about the new study of animals in Science.  The group projects and science experiments will really get them excited to learn about how God put in Animals in our world.

Thanks to every parent who sent in SPRITES.

The students appreciate them at the end of each month as they work toward excellent group behavior.

I’m so proud of EACH student in here as they learn and grow in class each day. THANK YOU FOR SHARING THEM WITH ME EACH DAY!!

Writing: Grandparents….

Students will  experience the writing process as they begin special projects for the Grandparent’s Day.

 

Novel: Charlotte’s Web

The students will finish up the novel today.  The novel contract projects will begin tomorrow. THEY HAVE DONE A SUPER JOB reading in groups, reading independently, and revisiting the texts with audio tape.

 

Shurley: Chapter 1 test will be this Thursday.  No worries. I will review them each day this week and teach them how to take a Shurley test.

The skills covered will be punctuation, capitalization, synonyms, antonyms, word analogies, and basic word classifications. (SN,V, ADJ, and ADJ)

I’m so proud how much they have learned during this daily English time!

placing each word on a new line in the given box. Make sure you have given your
list a name….possibly week 3 or list 3

 

You then just press SAVE. The last step will be to select the sentence you want to
have associated with the given words.

 

Once you press, I’m Done, you are finished. 

 

WEEK IN REVIEW  FOR 9/3/13 – 9/6/13:

Social Studies: Communities

  • 9/6 chapter 1 test (The students have a study guide in their  binder to study five minutes each night.)
  • I will teach them how to take a multiple choice test. No worries! J
  • Students just finished their Types of communities project.  They had to illustrate in great detail each characteristic of RURAL, SUBURB, AND URBAN.

 

Math: We will be finishing up chapter 1 place value this Wednesday.  We will review and do problem solving activities this Thursday and Friday.

Shurley: Review of SN and V jingles

  • Students are identifying the SN and V of sentences while learning the question and answer flow.
  • We will also be working on analogies,  antonyms and synonyms.
  • Capitalization and Punctuation rule review all week.

Reading: Students are almost finished with Charlotte’s Web.  I will teach them this week how to use their first novel contract.  They will pick 3 extension activities from the contract and work in groups of 2 or independently.

Writing:  Students will learn how to write a character sketch paragraph over their favorite character over Charlotte’s Web. They will also illustrate them in great detail.  Please come see them on our wall of fame soon.

 

 

 

Assignments 8/26/13-8/30/13:

Science: Open book test Monday.

This students have reviewed with me for 3 days and I sent home the textbook to go over in case they want to show you what’s on the test. (pages 30-31)  Please no worries!  I will show them exactly how to take a test Monday, so they should not be nervous at all.
·         STUDENTS ALSO HAVE A VOCABULARY BINDER THAT HAS THE CHAPTER  VOCABULARY IN THEM TO HELP THEM STUDY.  IT IS ONLY TO HELP THEM AND THEY ARE WELCOME TO BRING THAT HOME TOO. IT IS NOT MANDATORY.  THE NOTEBOOK IS JUST A TOOL . J

Students will be learning how to use the new novel contract.  This novel will be read by most students, and they will learn how to choose higher level thinking activities that are on the contract.  They will learn my expectations of the contract, and the level of effort I will expect them to put forth on each assignment they choose each day.
After much training,  each child will then choose their own novel to focus on during novel center time.
